MONTEREY COUNTY – Caltrans and Granite
Construction Company partially opened the new San Juan Road Interchange to
traffic on the morning of Friday, October 10. The opening permanently
removed left turns across Highway 101 at San Juan Road and Cole Road.
Just after 6 a.m. Friday, October 10, crews
opened the southbound Highway 101 exit and northbound Highway 101 on-ramp to
traffic. The opening allows drivers to use the new interchange to access:
·
San Juan Road
·
Cole Road
·
Ballantree Lane
·
The Red Barn
·
Northbound Highway 101
Access to southbound Highway 101 will remain via
the existing Dunbarton Road detour.
Directional signs and changeable message boards
are in place to help direct drivers.
The northbound Highway 101 off-ramp and
southbound Highway 101 on-ramp will remain closed to allow crews to continue to
safely work on both the ramps and Highway 101. The full opening of the San Juan
Road Interchange is currently scheduled for Spring of 2015.
The $69 million San Juan Road Interchange
Project will remove three major at-grade intersections (San Juan Road,
Dunbarton Road, and Cole Road) and replace them with a new interchange near the
Red Barn at San Juan Road and U.S.101. The project is supported by $10 million
from the Recovery Act and $28 million from Proposition 1B, a 2006
voter-approved bond. In total, nearly $15 billion in Proposition 1B funds have
been distributed statewide.
